Purpose:
To consider objectives to an amendment to a Traffic Order and to recommend the making of the Order as advertised
Reasons for the decision:
To enable the effective management of diverted high vehicles from the A303 in an emergency situation.
Alternative options considered:
The following options have been considered:
(i) Not to agree to the implementation of the Traffic Order for the diversion of high vehicles between the A36 and the A360.
(ii) Agree to the implementation of the Traffic Order to enable the separate diversion route for high vehicles to be signed.
Other reasons / organisations consulted
The Parish Councils, through which the diversion route is located, were advised of the proposal prior to the public advertisement and raised no objections.
Chitterne Parish Council raised no objection when the amendment to the Traffic Order was formally advertised. It is not happy with the proposal but is resigned to accepting the amendment, as it appreciates there is no other practical alternative.
The Local Member for Chitterne agrees with the views of the Parish Council.
