Chairman’s Updates

 

i)                 Car Parking Consultation – details in pack, the consultation runs until 16th January 2015.

 

ii)      Campus Update – Jim Lynch from BoACAN reported that he had attended the Wiltshire Council Cabinet meeting to lobby for the inclusion of Bradford on Avon in the capital programme for campus development 2014-17, but this had been unsuccessful. The Community Operations Board was deeply unhappy at this decision and was seeking clarification from the Council on its implications.  

 

iii)     Changes to Electoral Registration System – details in pack, all registrations to electronic register due by 1st December.

 

iv)    Emergency Planning Workshop for Bradford on Avon Community Area, 26 November at St Margaret’s Hall – details in pack, all parishes encouraged to attend.

 

 

Partner Updates

 

Wiltshire Police – Inspector Chris Chammings

 

·       The written report was noted.

 

 

Youth Advisory Group (YAG) – Emma Coombs (Community Youth Officer) and the YAG representatives.

 

Points made included:

 

·       Young Peoples’ Open Day - that the group hadbeen planninga youngpeople's openday, tobe heldat Bradford­ on Avon Youth Centre.This wouldbe usedas aconsultation dayto findout what services and facilities young peoplewant inBradford onAvon. Aquestionnaire would be devised foryoung peoplewho attendthe openday.

 

·       End of Six Week Sessions and Survey - atthe lastArea Boardthe group explained howthey hadbeen giventhe useof Bradford on­ Avon's YouthDevelopment Centreonce aweek forsix weekson Tuesdays.These sessions allowed themto speakto otheryoung peopleabout whatthe group cando nextand in thefuture toprovide youngpeople witha sourceof activitiesand facilitiesthat theyneed andrequire.

 

From thesesessions a short,5 questionsurvey foryoung people was put togetherin orderto receivemore detailabout exactlywhat facilitiesyoung peopleare looking for inBradford on Avon.

 

 

Survey Results

 

Question 1."Where would  yougo toget supportand advice?"

 

 

Fromthe fouroptions available,we foundthat 55%of youngpeople selected the 'other'option, andtheir answersconsisted ofturning toyouth workers or parentsfor support.

 

 

Question 2. "Doyou currentlyuse anyleisure activities?"

 

 

Theresults ofthis questionshow thatjust over60% ofyoung people answered 'yes'to currentlyusing leisureactivities.

 

Question 3."What activitieswould youlike tosee available inBoA?”

 

 

 65%of peoplesaid thatthey wouldlike tosee ayoung persons’meeting place and 16%mentioned thatthey wouldlike tohave activitieswith youth workers,in the'other' section.

 

 

Question 4."Would  a service thatoffered supportand advicebe ofvalue to you?”

 

 

Wethen foundout that74% ofpeople saidthat aservice whichoffered support would beof useto them.The remainingquarter ofyoung people answered 'no'.

 

 

Question 5. "Anyother comments  orsuggestions?"

 

 

Thiswas oneof ourmost importantquestions, asyoung peoplewere able to writeout anycomments theyhad, indetail.

 

 

·       One comment saidThere'snot muchto doin BoAso maybeif young peoplehad someadults todo activitieswith, withother youngpeople too, it couldgive usthings to do.Then ifa young person hasa problem, they couldtalk tothe adult."

 

Anothercomment saidIwould liketo seea youthcentre with youth workersthat Icould talk towhen Ihave aproblem.Theyhave helped in thepast andnow I haveabsolutelynoone."

 

 

·       Most of thecomments mentionedsaid thatyoung peoplewould benefit,if there wereyouth workersto completeactivities withor ayouth workerto speak to. Manyyoung peoplesuggested havingstreet basedyouth workers and ayoung people'smeeting placeheld ata certaintime each week on a regularbasis.

 

·   From drawing up thissurvey andlooking atthe results,the group agreed that they would usethis asa preliminaryquestionnaire andhave decidedthat they would like todraw up anothersurvey togain moreinformation aboutwhat specifically young people want regarding facilitiesin Bradford on Avon.

 

It was proposedto dothis atthe youngpeople's openday.
