Atworth pedestrian crossing halo lights

We the undersigned petition the council to ensure that the pedestrian crossing in Atworth is made as safe as possible. In addition to extending the zigzags we would like a grant towards the installation of halo lights on the crossing beacons.

There is a very frequent occurrence of traffic not stopping for pedestrians while they are actually walking across it. The village school, the youth club, Over 55s and many individuals have all had experience of this dangerous situation.
We believe that additional measures are needed to make it safe. There are two main improvement measures, one is extending zigzags which is being addressed; the other is the need to make the crossing lights brighter in daylight hours. This is best achieved by flashing LED halo lights.
The street view towards the crossing includes our clock tower, parked buses, and bright grit bin. These may distract drivers from seeing the very dim crossing lights until they are actually on the crossing.
We need to make the crossing as visible as possible in daylight hours. Our major housing areas at Godwins Close, Mead Park, Purlpit and Mount Pleasant all need to cross at this point to access the village hall, the recreation ground, the school, chapel and church.
We would like a grant towards installing halo lights with some contribution from Atworth Parish Council for this essential improvement.
