Purpose:

To consider the comments received following the formal advertisement of a Zebra crossing at Hither Way, Lacock and to recommend an appropriate way forward.

 

Decision:

I approve that:

 

(i)            The proposed Zebra crossing be installed as advertised. 

 

(ii)          The objectors be informed accordingly.

 

 

This decision was published on  4 July 2018 and will come into force on 12 July 2018.

 

Reasons for the decision:

The proposal is intended to improve pedestrian safety by creating a formal pedestrian crossing to aid National Trust visitors and the local community to cross Hither Way safely.  It reflects the recommendations set out within the Pedestrian Crossing Assessment based on the circumstances for this particular location.

 

Alternative options considered:

To:

 

(i)            Implement the proposed Zebra crossing as advertised.

 

(ii)           Amend the proposed Zebra crossing, taking account of representation received.

 

(iii)          Abandon the proposal.

 

Other reasons / organisations consulted

The proposal has been developed following prioritisation of this request by the Corsham Community Area Transport Group (CATG) with support from Lacock Parish Council and the National Trust.  The formal consultation period commenced on Friday 23 March 2018 and finished on Monday 16 April 2018.  During this time 14 responses with comments on the proposal were received.

 

Lacock Parish Council and the National Trust both submitted comments of formal support for the proposal.  No comments of either support or objection have been received from the Wiltshire Councillor
