Decision details

1.     To inform the Cabinet Member of the opportunities for the council to assist residents to install solar panels through Solar Together, a collective solar procurement scheme run by the company iChoosr.

2.     To seek approval to enter a contract with iChoosr to run the Solar Together project, subject to revisions of the contract being agreed with iChoosr.

3.     To seek approval to enter a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Wiltshire and Swindon Borough Council to set out ways of working between the two councils to achieve the scale needed for the collective procurement.

I approve that the decisions relating to the Solar Together Collective Procurement Scheme as set out in the attached report be approved.

This decision was published on 6 January 2022 and will come into force on 14 January 2022.

To participate in the Solar Together scheme.

An option would be to not participate in the scheme, which would prevent residents accessing the benefits of the Solar Together quality control process and result in lower uptake of rooftop solar. Another option would be to try to create a scheme with local installers however the workload and risk would be considerably higher. 

The Councillor Climate Working Group and the Climate Emergency Task Group have been consulted on the intention to participate in Solar Together and support the principle of the scheme.
