Community Safety

The Area Board will receive presentations from three community groups:

 

a)    Lauren Clark will give a presentation about Neighbourhood Watch schemes and the benefits of signing up and using Community Messaging.

b)    Richard Pomfrett will give a presentation on the Stay Safe Initiative and cyber security. 

c)    Byron Jervis will give an update will be given on Virgin Fibre and Virgin TV rollout in the Chippenham area.

Lauren Clark, Watch Coordinator for Crime Prevention at Wiltshire Council, was due to give a presentation on local Neighbourhood Watch schemes and the benefits of signing up and using Community Messaging. Her apologies were noted at the meeting, and a copy of her presentation slides are attached to these minutes.

 

Richard Pomfrett gave a presentation on the Stay Safe Initiative, of which he is the founder, and how to stay safe on the internet.

 

Matters highlighted in the course of the presentation and discussion included: what the Stay Safe Initiative does; who the initiative works with; what support the initiative provides; its work to ensure young people stay safe on the internet; the focus on making young people independent as well as safe users and the possibility of working with older people in the new year.

 

Byron Jervis, Paul Gooch and Nigel Richardson gave an update on Virgin Fibre and Virgin TV rollout in the Chippenham area. The presentation slides are attached to these minutes.

 

Matters highlighted in the course of the presentation and discussion included: what Virgin Media does; the services it provides; how the services will be rolled out; the Virgin Media network; how the roll out with affect the Chippenham area; examples of the work that Virgin Media do in communities; how Virgin Media engages with local residents; the programme of works and how long they will last and engagement and collaboration with highways teams.

·         CPM Sounds – Riverbank Studios continued development in 2020 - £4300

·         The Photo Club – Young Photographers Competition - £2000

·         The Wiltshire Outdoor Learning Team CIC – Chippenham High Ropes and Zipwire Festival - £2150

The Area Board considered six applications for Community Area Grant funding and three applications for Youth funding.

 

The Chairman invited a representative of the applicants the opportunity to give a brief overview of their project to the Area Board.
