Community Engagement Manager Update

To provide an update on the recent restructure to the Community Engagement team and what this means for the Malmesbury area.

Minutes:

The Chairman drew the Area Board’s attention to the recent restructure to Wiltshire Council’s Community Engagement team.

 

It was noted that Ollie Phipps would be replaced by Penny Bell as Malmesbury’s Community Engagement Manager. The Area Board thanked Ollie for his hard work over the past four years and welcomed Penny to her new role.

Blue Light Updates

To receive updates from the following partners:

b.    Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service

Minutes:

The Area Board received and noted the following updates from key partners:

 

a)    Wiltshire Police – the written update circulated at the meeting and the following points were noted:

 

·       That Wiltshire Police continued to tackle county lines and that residents should remain vigilant and report anything they may have seen or heard regarding this.

·       That knife crime remains low in Wiltshire and in general it was a very safe county to live in.  

 

b)    Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service – the video update was noted.

Highways Schemes 2019-20

To receive a presentation from Diane Ware on highways schemes for the forthcoming year and to consider the recommendations outlined in the report.

The Area Board received a presentation from Diane Ware on the highways schemes planned for the Malmesbury area in the forthcoming year.

 

Matters highlighted in the course of the presentation and discussion included: the programme will begin to look more at road condition; the Malmesbury area was to receive the joint second amount of funding; the unclassified network of roads was to get more attention; residents were encouraged to submit their own views on what roads needed to be improved; that the highways team would like to have local views by the end of March; previously identified roads for improvement; ongoing works to deal with weather and overruns; issues around access; effective use of signage; the use of patching material as a temporary measure and the problem of farmer’s ditches.

 

Resolved

 

To adopt the recommendations of the Road Surfacing Programme 2019/20 as outlined in the report.

Mental Health Workshop

To receive a workshop with tools to improve your mental health from Denise Little, Mind Reset.

 

Minutes:

The Area Board received a presentation and workshop from Denise Little, Mind Reset, about mental health and how you can take steps to improve it.

 

Matters highlighted in the course of the presentation and workshop included: what mental health is and what it means individually; possible signs of mental health issues; the most common mental health issues; the difficulty in diagnosing mental health issues and the importance of being open and honest about mental health.

Area Board Funding

Councillors will be asked to consider the Community Area Grants report and make recommendations on the applications received:

 

1.    Malmesbury Town Council - Reinstatement of external public toilet facilities - £2,500.00

2.    Friends of Riverside - Garden Improvement Project - £500.00

1.    To award Malmesbury Town Council - £2500 for the reinstatement of external public toilet facilities.

·       Malmesbury Abbey will host the Open Doors for Dementia even on 17th May 10am - 3pm and more information coming out in parish magazines soon.

·       Work is underway to develop a website for residents to access the information Ellen would otherwise communicate herself.

 

b)    Riverside Centre

 

·       The main hall and other areas of the centre were currently being repainted. 

·       The Centre had been selected to take part in the National Armed Forces Day for the Malmesbury Area and will produce an A3 patchwork representing what the forces means for the Malmesbury Area. This will be toured around the county once completed.

 

c)    Healthwatch Wiltshire – the written report was received and noted.

 

d)    NHS Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group – the written report was received and noted.
