Pewsham Bypass Pedestrian Crossings

We the undersigned petition the council to Install two Pedestrian Refuge Islands on the Pewsham Bypass connecting the Pewsham estate with Westmead Open Space and the Avon Valley Walk.

I would like to propose the installation of two Pedestrian Refuge Islands on the Pewsham Bypass connecting the Pewsham estate with the Westmead Open Space and the Avon Valley Walk. Pewsham is fortunate to have access to two traffic free footpaths; the Westmead Open Space into Chippenham town; and the Avon Valley Walk along the Old Canal. Unfortunately, however, pedestrians to and from the Pewsham estate have to cross over two lanes of traffic travelling at 50mph. Which is highly dangerous, particularly between the Pewsham Estate and the Westmead Open Space that lays on a bend making it difficult to see the approaching traffic. Whilst there are existing signs warning of crossing pedestrians many drivers do not slow down.
The introduction of Pedestrian Refuge Islands on the Pewsham Bypass would allow pedestrians to only have to focus on one direction of traffic at a time. Rather than taking the risk of crossing two lanes of traffic travelling at 50mph in opposite directions
I would therefore like to submit this petition to have two Pedestrian Refuge Islands installed on the Pewsham Bypass in the following locations.

Location 1: Westmead Open Space Car Park to Pewsham Estate.
What 3 Words Marker: Falls, Pens, Both

Location 2: Avon Valley Walk Footpath to Pewsham Estate, Forest Lane
What 3 Words Marker: Headed, Gosh, Sings
