Purpose:

To ask the Cabinet Member to approve the statutory proposals published by the governing bodies of St Mary’s CEVC Infant School and St Peter’s CEVC Junior School on 6 November 2014.

(i)            The proposal to close St Mary’s Infant and St Peter’s Junior schools, Marlborough (including the SEN Resource Bases) and to open a new voluntary controlled primary school on the site of the St Mary’s, offering 440 places (including 20 SEN Resource Base places). This approval is conditional on the letting of a contract to provide the new primary school buildings.

 

 

This decision was published on 19 December2014 and will come into force on 31 December 2014.

 

Reasons for the decision:

Thelinked proposalspublished bythe localgoverning bodies have securedsignificant backingfrom thecommunity ofparents, aresupported bythe DfEand theDiocese ofSalisbury andwill helpto securethe futureof primaryeducation in the communityof Marlborough.

 

Alternative options considered:

Theprincipal optionconsidered duringthe consultationprocess, was to leavethe schoolsas separateinfant andjunior schoolson theirexisting sites and intheir currentbuildings.

Aperiod ofstatutory consultationin Septemberand October2014 preceded the publicationof thelinked statutoryproposals. Thepublic noticeperiod has been fourweeks.
