Decision details

HT-13-16 Proposed Puffin Crossing, Frome Road, Bradford on Avon

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport

Decision status: Recommendations Approved (subject to call-in)

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To consider comments received in relation to a Wiltshire Council proposal to exercise its powers under Section 23 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to install a “PUFFIN” (Pedestrian User-Friendly Intelligent) Crossing, a form of traffic signal-controlled crossing on B3109 Frome Road, Bradford on Avon.

Decision:

I approve that the proposal be proceeded as advertised. This decision was published on 25 May 2016 and will come into force on 3 June 2016.

Reasons for the decision:

It is considered that the advertised crossing provides the best solution for the crossing needs of Fitzmaurice School.  The alternative suggestion put forward raises safety concerns and is not considered a practical solution to deal with the needs of Fitzmaurice School pupils.

Alternative options considered:

To:

(i)         Proceed with the proposal as advertised

(ii)        Not proceed with the proposal.

Other reasons / organisations consulted

The proposal was subject to formal advertisement between 28 March and 18 April 2016.  During the advertisement period a total of two items of comment were received.  This report deals with those comments made in relation to the proposed introduction of a PUFFIN crossing and associated controlled zone on B3109 Frome Road, Bradford on Avon.
