Purpose:

To confirm the authorisation of the Consultants in Communicable Disease Control (CCDCs) and other equivalently qualified deputising officers in Public Health England South West as Proper Officers as required by Public Health legislation.

the Consultants in Communicable Disease Control (CCDCs) and other equivalently qualified deputising officers in Public Health England South West are authorised as Proper Officers as required by the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984 (as amended) and the Health Protection (Notification) Regulations 2010.

 

This decision was published on  29 March and will come into force on

10 April

 

Reasons for the decision:

To provide increased resilience in meeting the legal requirement to appoint a Proper Officer under Public Health legislation.

Alternative options considered:

There are limited options in regard to these powers as the council has statutory duties in relation to controlling the risk associated with communicable diseases and other public health risks such as food poisoning outbreaks. 

Other reasons / organisations consulted

Consultation has been carried out with Public Health England in relation to powers contained in the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984 (as amended) and the Health Protection (Notification) Regulations 2010. A memorandum of understanding between Wiltshire Council and Public Health England South West to meet the requirements of the aforementioned legislation is currently in place.
