Decision details

1.      To inform the Cabinet Member of the role and responsibilities or SACRE and to seek approval to the adoption of a revised constitution for SACRE.

1.      To provide an appropriate basis for the Wiltshire Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education to be re-established and to undertake its duties.

1.      To continue with the existing constitution and membership.  The current membership does not reflect the current breadth of different religious groups in Wiltshire or that of the curriculum framework for Religious Education.

2.      Extend the membership to a wider range of religious groups.  The proposals invite representation from groups which have as established presence in Wiltshire and offer the opportunity for SACRE to co-opt representatives from other groups should it be considered appropriate.

1.      All the members of the outgoing SACRE, and their appointing bodies, have been consulted over the draft constitution.  Three responses were received and their comments have been incorporated into the proposed constitution.
