Purpose:

To consider representations made to the advertisement of a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) in relation to a proposed prohibition of entry from Wedhampton High Street to the A342, and to recommend an appropriate way forward.

 

That:

 

(i)            The proposal be implemented as advertised.

 

(ii)           A safety review be undertaken at Lydeway where bridleway URCH23 meets the A342 

 

(iii)          All stakeholders be advised of recommendations.

 

Decision:

I approve the implementation of the proposals as advertised and that objectors be informed accordingly.

 

This decision was published on 11 November 2024 and will come into effect on 19 November 2024.

Reasons for the decision:

To improve road safety of the junction on the A342 at Wedhampton with Wedhampton High Street following concerns raised by the Devizes LHFIG on behalf of Urchfont Parish Council and the local community.

 

To improve road safety at Lydeway where the bridleway at URCH23 meets the A342

 

The proposal has the support of the locally elected members, both Wiltshire Council and Devizes Town Council, Local Highway Footway Improvement Group and Area Board.

Alternative options considered:

To:

(i)         Implement the proposal as advertised.

 

(ii)        Implement the proposal as advertised with amendments.

 

(iii)       Undertake a safety review at Lydeway where the bridleway URCH23 meets the A342

 

(iv)       Abandon the proposal.

Consultation has been undertaken with:

 

           The elected Wiltshire Council Member through the statutory TRO consultation process.

           The elected Urchfont Parish Council through the statutory TRO consultation process

           Members of the Devizes Local Highways & Footways Improvement Group (LHFIG)

           Emergency services through the statutory TRO consultation process

           Members of the public through the statutory TRO consultation process

 

The proposed TROs were subject to formal consultation between 4th July 2024 and 29th July 2024. During the consultation period a total of one item of correspondence was received in response to the Council’s proposals. The comments received have been considered as an objection.

 

The proposal has been developed following prioritisation by the Devizes Local Highways & Footway Improvement Group (LHFIG) and endorsement by Devizes Area Board.
