Purpose:

To gain Councillor approval for the initiation of a Land Transfer from Salisbury City Council and acquisition of land from the Diocesan Board of Education for the purposes of constructing an extension to Exeter House Special School, Salisbury.

Reasons for the decision:

To retrospectively accommodate the significant increase in pupil numbers at Exeter House Special School in line with Building Bulletin 102 recommendations on minimum space standards.

Ø  The Project was instructed by Nigel Hunt, School Buildings and Places, DCE.

Ø  The scheme is being delivered as a capital project with the following funding:

o   £300,000 government grant for Food Technology

o   £5,000,000 government grant for Special School Projects (not time limited)

o   £30,000 supported borrowing

Ø  A feasibility study was completed in early 2010 to review possible options. As part of the feasibility, pre-application discussions were held with planners and consultees (specifically the County Ecologist, County Archaeologist and County Wildlife Officer).

Ø  Consultation has been conducted with St Marks, Salisbury City Council and local residents?

Ø  Further public consultation taken place as part of the Planning process.
