The purpose of this report is to ask the cabinet member to agree the school term and holiday dates for 2015/16 for Wiltshire’s Community, Voluntary Controlled and Community Special Schools.

INTENTION TO MAKE DECISION

Following consultation with officers I give notice that I intend to make the decision to approve the 195 day calendar for School Term & Holiday Dates for 2015/16 as shown in Option 4 of Appendix C. If you would like to make any representations to me on this issue please do so by 23 April 2014.

It was decided to consult on a 195 term day calendar for 2015/16 based on the results of previous years’ consultation. This had revealed that the majority of schools were not in favour of options showing less than 195 days due to the lack of flexibility offered for the setting of teacher development days and therefore the difficulties in securing quality trainers.

A protocolfor the settingofschoolterm & holidaydates hasbeenendorsed bytheTeachers JointConsultative Committee andCounty Secretaries(seeAppendix A). In line with the recommendationssetoutinthisprotocol, four 195 term daycalendarswereproposedfor consultation.

Consultations with schools,neighbouringauthorities, members,publicandotherinterested parties have beencompleted(seeAppendix B).

TheTeachersJoint Consultative Committee andCounty Secretariesconsidered andnotedthe consultationresponsesatitsmeetingon 28th March (see Appendix C)andis recommending the consultation datesproposed in Option4 ofAppendix C.
