Decision details

CS-03-14 - Intention - Proposal to Expand Greentrees Primary School, Salisbury, and to Establish A Resource Base for up to 14 Autistic Children.

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Children's Services

Decision status: For Determination

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

To ask the Cabinet Member to approve the statutory proposals published by Wiltshire Council on 1 May 2014 to expand Greentrees Primary School, Salisbury, and to establish a resource base for up to 14 autistic children.

Decision:

Following consultation with officers I give notice that I intend to make the decision set out in the attached report. If you would like to make any representations to me on this issue please do so by 12 August 2014.

Reasons for the decision:

The proposals published by Wiltshire Council have secured significant backing from the community of parents, and will help to secure the future of outstanding primary education in the locality.

Alternative options considered:

The option to open another primary school rather than expand Greentrees was considered. However, Greentrees is an outstanding school, substantially oversubscribed and is close to the new housing at Hampton Park. Therefore, the proposal is most consistent with a policy of expansion of popular and successful schools.

Other reasons / organisations consulted

A period of statutory consultation in January and February 2014 preceded the publication of the statutory proposals. The public notice period has been six weeks.
