Welcome

Minutes:

 The Chairman welcomed everybody to the Westwood Social Club and introduced the Area Board members.

 

Members of the Bradford on Avon Town Council were welcomed, as were Parish Council representatives.

 

The Chairman set out his vision for how the area board members will work together, across party lines, sharing chairmanship of the area board and its committees. Also of how the town and villages would be given equal attention and resources in recognition of local demography. He hoped that politics would be set aside and that the local authorities could work together on common priorities, developing a programme of community engagement and involvement in key decisions and projects.

Eat Out Eat Well

Liz Hubbart - Public Protection, Wiltshire Council.

Liz Hubbart - Public Protection, Wiltshire Council gave a presentation that outlined the Eat Out Eat Well award scheme which encouraged healthy eating for Wiltshire caterers and schools.

 

Points made included:

 

·         Acknowledged caterers who promoted healthier options.

 

·         Informed customer choice in making healthier choices when eating outside the home.

 

·         Award was open to most types of catering establishments which were ‘broadly compliant’ in relation to food safety and food standards.

 

·         Included schools.

 

·         Encouraged caterers to think about healthier options e.g. less salt, sugar and saturated fat.

 

·         Rewarded caterers who make it easier for customers to eat healthily - increased publicity.

 

·         Assisted caterers in meeting the demand for healthier meals - advice, guidance and low cost nutrition training.

 

·         Helped customers make informed choice e.g. by including healthier items on the menu which were clearly identified.

 

·         Scheme running for 3 years in Wiltshire - 217 businesses had successfully completed (includes 90 schools).

 

·         3 levels of award - Gold, Silver & Bronze -  based on a points scheme against a set criteria.

 

·         Award symbolized by apple logo in the shape of a heart. Logo could be used on businesses own promotion resources.

 

It was agreed that the Bradford on Avon Area Board would support and encourage local businesses and schools to participate in the scheme.

Community Grant Scheme

·         Westwood with Iford Primary School requesting £2,500 towards Westwood Heritage Oral History Project.

 

·         Winsley Bowls Club requesting £2,118 towards new windows and doors for clubhouse.

 

·         Councillor led application from Councillor Lynch for £500 towards the running costs of the Bradford on Avon Multi Agency Forum.

Hearing and engaging with "village voices"

Westwood, Winsley, Limpley Stoke Parish Councils.

 

Including roundtable discussions.

Minutes:

Cllr Johnny Kidney introduced “Village Voices”, an opportunity for the Parishes to update the Area Board on their successes and challenges.

 

Westwood Parish Council – John Bishop

 

·         Good ongoing work being carried out with the local policing teams.

 

·         Neighbourhood Plan was ongoing.

 

·         Concerns re the future of the village shop.

 

·         That the Westwood Parish Rooms were now redeveloped with new kitchen, toilets and baby changing area. Thanks to the Area Board for its grant funding.

 

 

Limpley Stoke Parish Council – Janice Richards

 

·         20mph speed limit now being enforced.

 

·         Handrail now installed on the Twizzle footpath.

 

·         Good collaboration with the Parish Steward.

 

·         Joint Neighbourhood Plan with Freshford was ongoing

 

 

Winsley Parish Council – John Barton

 

·         B3108 (Winsley By-pass) – looking to get the speed limit reduced from 50 - to 40mph and 40-30mph on certain sections.

 

·         Ongoing working with the Winsley Hill Action Group to improve road safety.

·         CATG Update - Councillor Sarah Gibson.

·         That a “Domesday book “ documenting the condition of the Bradford on Avon community area pavements was to be compiled. Funding could then be looked at for this issue.

 

 

Local Youth Network Update - Councillor Trevor Carbin/Emma Drage

 

·         Nothing to report at the present time.

 

 

 Health and Wellbeing Update - Councillor Johnny Kidney

 

·         That the group had now held its second meeting, a seminar on adult social care service transformation.

 

·         That the next meeting would focus on mental health issues.

 

·         That a Dementia-Friendly initiative continued to be rolled out across the community area.
