Consultation process

Cabinet considered a report at its meeting of 6 November 2012 on the Controlled Waste Regulations 2012 and proposed changes to the Council’s charging policies.  This report referred to the requirement to recover the full cost of providing these services where the legislation allowed.

In addition, charges made by neighbouring councils were examined as part of the 2011/12 review of waste charges.  In some instances, a commercial waste collection service was not offered.  Wiltshire’s proposed charges for 2012/13 were broadly consistent, being a little higher than those of Dorset Council, whilst lower than the charges of Bath and North East Somerset Council.

The charges proposed for 2013/14 reflect the same principles as those agreed for 2012/13, in seeking to recover the full cost of providing the service where the Council has the powers to do so.  The charges are set out in Appendix 1 to this report.

The charges do not affect the waste and recycling service provided to domestic households except for the provision of second garden waste bins and the collection of bulky household waste.
