Chairman's Welcome, Introductions and Announcements

Minutes:

The Chairman welcomed everyone to the meeting of the Royal Wootton Bassett & Cricklade Area Board and to the Bushton & Clyffe Pypard Village Hall.

 

The councillors and officers present were introduced as were representatives of Surrey County Council and Kartar Singh – Wiltshire Council.

 

A presentation was made to Jan Bardwell, who was retiring from her role as Wiltshire Council Heath Trainer.

Strengthening our Communities

A presentation by Cllr Richard Clewer - Chairman of the Electoral Review Committee, or a member of the Project Teamon the Electoral Review the Local Government Boundary Commission is currently undertaking and relevance to each community area.

 

 

The councillors and Ellen Blacker will deliver a review of the past financial year across the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment themes

 

 

Grant feedback from Bushton and Clyffe Pypard Village Hall regarding their community grant towards new cookers

 

 

‘Moving forwards’ - which agenda format would you prefer and suggestions for the future?’

Health & Wellbeing Funding

 

Wiltshire Music Centre requesting £1,500 for Celebrating Age Wiltshire Partnership, led by Wiltshire Music Centre - a programme of arts/cultural events in six Wiltshire communities in libraries and community settings.

A presentation was given by Cllr Richard Clewer - Chairman of the Electoral Review Committee on the Electoral Review the Local Government Boundary Commission was currently undertaking and relevance to each community area.

 

Points made included:

 

·         That this was the first review for Wiltshire since 2008

 

·         That changes would apply from the next elections in May 2021

 

·         The decision was made by Parliament, following recommendations from the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE)

 

·         That the Full Wiltshire Council had approved a council size submission of 99 councillors based on Area Boards

 

·         The LGBCE would then inform Wiltshire Council of its decision in due course

 

The Chairman thanked Cllr Clewer for his presentation.

 

 

The councillors and Ellen Blacker gave a short review of the past financial year across the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment themes

 

Ellen Blacker advised that she, thanks to Area Board funding, continued to support the vulnerable and older members of the community area.

 

 

Cllr Bob Jones – Environmental

 

·         That lots of good environmental work and projects had been carried out.

 

Cllr Mary Champion – Children and Young People

 

·         That good work continued to be carried out by Sue Hughes as the Local Youth Champion.

 

 

Cllr Chris Hurst – The Economy

 

·         That the recent Royal Wootton Bassett Apprenticeship Fair had been well received.

 

·         That good work was being carried out by the Wiltshire and Swindon Women in Business Group.

 

 

Cllr Chris Hurst – Health, Wellbeing and Leisure

 

·         That good work had been carried out by Jan Bardwell in her role as Health Trainer. There had also been the introduction of seated sports” in RWB for the older and less able bodied.

 

 

Cllr Mollie Groom - Culture

 

·         That good work had been carried out by the Lydiard Millicent Luncheon Club and Lydiard Tregoz charity coffee mornings.

 

·         Well done to Broad Town for a huge effort in cleaning their white horse.

 

 

Cllr Jacqui Lay – Community Safety

 

·         That work had been carried out tackling anti-social behaviour in Cricklade.

 

·         That funding had been given for CCTV schemes locally.

 

·         The implementation of the Safe Places scheme.

 

·         The continued work of the Community Area Transport Group.

 

 

Cllr Jacqui Lay – Transport

 

·         That the Community Area Transport Group continued to work across the community areas.

 

Cllr Allison Bucknell advised the meeting that the Area Board was always looking to become involved with new community projects. Please reach out and contact your community engagement manager, Alexa Davies, if you have an idea which you would like to move forwards; alexa.davies@wiltshire.gov.uk. 

 

Barbara Davisthanked the Area Board for the community grant that Bushton and Clyffe Pypard Village Hall had received towards new cookers in their village hall. The grant meant that the hall could now be used more, and utilise its new kitchen.
